Annotations for Creative Writing

This scripted dialogue continues from my last creative writing piece as it jumps to the first day back at university after Christmas. The character Grace is shown to be negative as she feels that she is stuck, whilst everyone else around her is moving forward. After hearing about her friend Emily’s beach holiday, she reflects on her own Christmas and looking back, it wasn’t as good as she remembers it. This depicts the nature of comparison and how detrimental it can be to our mental health, causing us to overthink, or to think we’re not good enough. The piece also highlights what it’s like to grow up as Grace’s childhood friend Claire is now busy with her boyfriend, whilst her brother is going out with his friends instead of staying in with family. These are some ways in which I wanted to demonstrate what it’s like to be a young adult, where everyone is at different stages of life. This dialogue should serve as a reminder that everyone’s progression through life does not need to be compared and is in fact good enough already.
